Police Officer Sentenced for Revenge Porn, Abuse of Singer

Pop singer Sok Chenda took to Facebook on Tuesday to hail her “good news” after the Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced her former boyfriend to one year in prison for physical abuse and posting her nude photographs online.

Kuy Sithisak, a police officer and the 26-year-old son of late prisons department head Kuy Bunsorn, was also ordered to pay 200 million riel, or about $50,000, in compensation after he was found guilty of intentional violence and distributing pornography.

His lawyer, Var Pisey, said he planned to discuss an appeal with his client, who was sentenced in absentia, failed to turn up for questioning and has not been arrested.

Judge Kor Vandy on Tuesday, with no explanation, denied a prosecution request for an arrest warrant to be issued against Mr. Sithisak.

At a hearing last month, Nuon Bara, Ms. Chenda’s lawyer, claimed the court had favored the defendant because he failed to appear without consequence, and Ms. Chenda had demanded $500,000 in damages.

Mr. Bara said he would discuss the compensation with her, despite the judge telling the court that “any further demands will be rejected.”
