Military Truck Seized With Wood; Driver Gone

More than 15 cubic meters of wood were confiscated early on Sunday by Prey Veng military police after they apprehended a truck with a military license plate, officials said.

Sak Sophanny, military police commander in Preah Sdech district, said he received a tip that the wood would be coming through the district at around 1 a.m. on Sunday, but initially was directed toward the wrong truck.

Military police fanned out to search the area, and within hours four officers found the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) truck and attempted to stop it, he said.

The truck did not stop, however, and was discovered at 6 a.m. abandoned in the district’s Lvea commune.

Chhuon Kimsan, the deputy provincial military police commander, said the truck had been carrying some 15 cubic meters of timber.

Asked if the military police would investigate further, he said it was up to the provincial court. The wood was sent to the Forestry Administration, he added.

You Viy, chief of the administration’s Baphnom division, said he had not ascertained the identity of the truck’s owner.
