Man Arrested for Raping Girl, 11, in National Park

A man has been arrested in Kompong Speu province after confessing to repeatedly raping an 11-year-old relative, most recently in a national park near their village in Phnom Sruoch district, police said.

The 31-year-old suspect was taken into custody after the victim’s 18-year-old brother witnessed the assault on Wednesday morning in Kirirom National Park and reported it to a park ranger.

“They went to pick flowers together to make flower crowns to sell and then he raped her,” said Ros Sarin, the police chief for Chambak commune.

Under questioning, the man admitted he had repeatedly raped the girl since late last year, said Pok Sarith, a commune police officer.

The man, who has a wife and three children, was arrested after confessing, Mr. Sarith said.

“The victim said the suspect didn’t threaten her, but after raping her, he told her not to tell anyone about this,” Mr. Sarith said. Som Bora, the deputy provincial police chief, said the man was detained at the provincial police station and would be sent to the provincial court today.
