A 60-year-old farmer has confessed to raping his two 9-year-old granddaughters in Kandal province’s Khsach Kandal district, assaulting one on Sunday, police said on Monday.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday afternoon after one of the girls’ mothers questioned her daughter after finding blood on the child’s trousers, said Chhim Vanny, deputy provincial police chief for women’s and children’s affairs.
“She then told her mother about the rape,” Ms. Vanny said.
After her parents filed a complaint with authorities, the suspect was arrested.
Under questioning later on Sunday, he admitted to raping each of his granddaughters twice on separate occasions since January—on a boat, at his house and at his farm, according to Un Yong, district police chief.
After his confession, the cousins were taken to the hospital for examinations on Monday, Ms. Vanny said.
The suspect was being held on Monday at the district police station and is expected in court today, she said.
