KNLF Members Set to Appear in Court Today

Two members of the Khmer National Liberation Front (KNLF), a government-branded terrorist group, are expected to appear in court today for questioning after being arrested at a news conference in Phnom Penh on Tuesday, police said.

Thuy Vy, 29, and Ditlim Sopheawattei, 42, were detained alongside 69-year-old Khun Sawakkhet, a representative for the little-known Inter-Races High Commissioner Organization.

Sim Vuthy, Phnom Penh deputy municipal police chief, said on Wednesday that they would be questioned at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court today over their motives for holding the news conference.

“First, we inspected and found that the Inter-Races High Commissioner Organization did not have legal permission.

Second, we found they were holding it together with the Khmer National Liberation Front,” he said.

The KNLF has numerous members serving lengthy prison terms for their affiliation with the group, which is run from Denmark by Sam Serey, who launched a “government in exile” last year.

“The Khmer National Liberation Front, as you already know, is the front that is illegally against the government,” Mr. Vuthy said.
