KNLF Member Charged, Detained for Incitement

A member of the Khmer National Liberation Front (KNLF) has been charged with incitement to commit a felony and placed in provisional detention after being arrested at a news conference last week, a spokesman for the Phnom Penh Municipal Court said on Sunday.

Thuy Vy, 29, the “Minister of Agriculture” for the government-branded terrorist group KNLF which was formed as a “government in exile” from Denmark last year, was charged and sent to Prey Sar prison on Friday by Investigating Judge Seng Rithy, spokesman Y Rin said.

Mr. Vy was arrested with two other men, Ditlim Sopheawattei, 42, and Khun Sawakkhet, 69, on Tuesday at an attempted news conference in Phnom Penh organized to “seek the political solution for a long political crisis in Cambodia,” according to a media release.

The event, however, was shut down by police at about 9 a.m. and the three were arrested, with Mr. Sopheawattei and Mr. Sawakkhet later being released due to lack of evidence.
