“Thank you, compatriots who sent messages wishing me well and worrying about my health.”

CPP spokesman Sok Eysan said Mr. Hun Sen would preside over the World Economic Forum on Asean 2017, which is set to begin in Phnom Penh on Wednesday, but was unsure if he would attend a Red Cross event today.

The prime minister made the surprise announcement on Thursday that he had been admitted to a hospital in Singapore, apologizing to dignitaries for missing meetings scheduled over the weekend.

The premier’s condition had been caused by a heavy workload, according to Phay Siphan, Council of Ministers spokesman.

Some of Mr. Hun Sen’s more than 7 million Facebook fans responded with messages wishing a speedy recovery, alongside criticism for traveling to a foreign country for medical treatment.
