The body of a 7-year-old girl who disappeared while walking home from a pepper farm was found floating in a shallow pond in Kep province on Monday, according to police, who said officials were searching for her killer.
Em Lisa went missing while walking the 1 kilometer between her home and the farm where her parents work in Kep City’s Prey Thom commune at about 10 a.m. on Sunday, said provincial police chief Oeng Sam Ol.
“This is a robbery and murder because the victim lost a pair of fake gold earrings and had wounds on her body, face and head from a stick, and strangle marks on her neck,” he said.
Mr. Sam Ol said the girl’s parents became worried when they arrived home for lunch and she was not there, alerting relatives and commune police officers who helped search for her.
Em Vichet, 33, found his daughter’s body floating in a pond between the farm and his house at about 7 a.m. on Monday, Mr. Sam Ol said.
Police were searching for suspects, he added.
