Friend Sought in Fatal Stabbing of Farmer

Police are searching for a farmer suspected of fatally stabbing a friend during an argument on Tuesday night before fleeing on foot, officials said on Wednesday.

Bun Chhenghom, 21, and Sroeun Kara, 22, had been drinking together and were walking home through Kompoan commune in Tbong Khmum province’s Memot district at about 9 p.m. when they started arguing, commune police chief Yem Samol said.

Mr. Kara then allegedly stabbed Bun Chhenghom in the upper thigh, reportedly with a knife, Mr. Samol said. Mr. Kara had fled the scene by the time police arrived, and Bun Chhenghom’s father and a friend had taken him to the district referral hospital, where he died at about 11 p.m., Mr. Samol said.

Bun Chhenghom’s father, Bun Channa, said the suspect came to his home on the night of the fight looking for his son, claiming he had pawned his son’s telephone.

Long Thavrin, deputy chief of the district police’s judicial section, said a relative told investigators that Mr. Kara also tried to stab the victim last year.
