Fisherman Charged in Rape of 6-Year-Old

The Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court on Thursday charged a fisherman over the rape of his 6-year-old neighbor on Tuesday morning.

Following questioning at the provincial court on Thursday, the fisherman, Tram Tav, was charged and sent to the provincial prison on Thursday afternoon, according to deputy provincial military police commander Keo Sophal.

“The provincial court this afternoon charged him with rape of a minor…. He already confessed to what he did, and we have enough evidence to inculpate him too,” he said.

He added that Mr. Tav, who admitted to being a habitual methamphetamine user, had assisted military police in arresting two men accused of selling drugs to him, both of whom were still detained for questioning on Thursday.

Mr. Tav was arrested at his house in Sihanoukville’s Buon commune on Tuesday morning, a few hours after the parents of his victim reported the rape of their daughter to local police.

They said they had left her alone while they went out to sell fish, and came home to find her with blood on her clothes.
