A construction worker in Kompong Thom province was charged with rape after his 13-year-old daughter told her aunt that she had been repeatedly sexually assaulted at their home, officials said on Friday.
The 38-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, sent to the provincial court for questioning on Thursday and was transferred on Friday to prison to await trial, said Suong Then, the Baray district police chief.
“Her aunt had seen that the girl looked very pale and often complained about being hurt,” Mr. Then said. “Seeing her like that, the aunt took her to see a doctor, and then she described the story and said her father had raped her many times.”
Ith Sothea, a provincial court prosecutor, said police were assigned to the case after the girl’s aunt filed a complaint on Tuesday.
Police said the girl’s mother had been reluctant to do so.
“He was charged with rape and sent to prison already this afternoon,” Mr. Sothea said. “Raping your daughter like that cannot be a small offense, which means it is a really big one.”
