Factory Security Bosses Charged in Rape of Guard, 19

The Chinese head of security at a garment factory in Kandal province and his Cambodian counterpart at a sister factory next door were on Wednesday charged and jailed over the rape of a teenage security guard on Sunday afternoon.

“This morning, we charged the Chinese man with rape and the Cambodian as an accomplice, and they were sent to the provincial prison this afternoon,” said prosecutor Lim Sokuntha.

Xieshao Xuan, chief of security at the Meng Yan factory in Kandal’s Sa’ang district, and Yu Sopheak, his counterpart at the Meng Tong factory, both 27, were arrested on Monday after a 19-year-old guard told local police that Mr. Xieshao raped her in his office on Sunday when she rebuffed his advances.

Mr. Sopheak had called her to the office at the Chinese man’s request and later forced her back inside the room when she walked away, she told police.

While Mr. Sopheak corroborated this account under questioning at the provincial court on Wednesday morning, Mr. Xieshao said he only used his fingers to penetrate the teenager and denied the charge of rape, according to Mr. Sokuntha.
