A Malaysian man was arrested early Saturday morning after fleeing the scene of an accident in which he allegedly hit the driver of a motorcycle hauling a trailer with his Lexus in Phnom Penh’s Chamkar Mon district, police said.
Chea Kim Sour, deputy chief of Phnom Penh’s traffic police unit, said the Malaysian man, 35, plowed into the other vehicle while driving drunk at about 3:40 a.m.
The victim was en route to nearby Deum Kor market to collect vegetables when he was struck and succumbed to his injuries at the scene, he said.
“The suspect was drunk and drove his car into the victim on the corner of Mao Tse Toung Boulevard and Street 63,” Mr. Kim Sour said, adding that the man was arrested about 20 minutes later, having fled the scene.
He said he did not recall the name of either the victim or the suspect, or other details of the case, but knew that the suspect worked at the NagaWorld casino.
Mr. Kim Sour said the Malaysian had been sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court at about 3 p.m. on Sunday but did not know if he had been charged.
Court officials could not be reached.
