Couple Charged Over Murder of Wife’s Lover

A married couple was charged with premeditated murder on Monday over the fatal beating of the wife’s lover, whose body was found floating in a pond in Kandal province over the weekend, police said.

Lai Lin, 27, was found dead in the pond in Sa’ang district on Saturday, a black plastic bag around his head, according to Mat Angkearith, a provincial police officer.

On Sunday, police arrested Khem Kheng, 27, and his wife, Chap Sochoeun, 26, at their home in Sa’ang Phnom commune.

Mr. Kheng later confessed to using a stun gun to shock Mr. Lin unconscious at the victim’s house on June 23 before hanging him with a rope and using an iron bar to beat his head, Mr. Angkearith said.

“The husband said he killed the victim because he was angry at him for loving and having sex with his wife,” he said.

Both Mr. Kheng and his wife then dumped the body in the pond, located about 200 meters from their house, he said, adding that the couple was remanded to provisional detention after being charged at the Kandal Provincial Court on Monday.
