Cambodian, Thai Officials Hold Security Meeting

A military delegation led by Royal Cambodian Armed Forces General Neang Phat began a three-day meeting with a Thai delegation on Monday in Siem Reap province in the run-up to a meeting between the countries’ defense ministers next month, a Defense Ministry statement said.

Gen. Phat, a member of the joint Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC), said on Monday that the meeting, which was due to end on Wednesday, was held between Cambodian and Thai officials to strengthen military cooperation along the border.

“It raised measures to crack down on drug trafficking, human trafficking and other crimes, especially to maintain security and stability along the border so that both peoples live in peace,” Gen. Phat told reporters at a hotel in Siem Reap City.

Drug trafficking, illegal border crossings and other transborder crimes topped the meeting’s agenda, according to the statement released on Friday.

Defense Minister Tea Banh is set to meet with his Thai counterpart in Siem Reap for the 12th GBC meeting at the end of next month, ministry spokesman In Sovann said.
