Prime Minister Hun Sen’s wife, Bun Rany, was awarded an honorary doctorate from China’s Guangxi University for Nationalities on Monday, bringing her total number of honorary Ph.D.s to five.
Ms. Rany, who is the president of the Cambodian Red Cross, was awarded the degree for paying “attention to [Cambodia’s] relationship with China and for actively pushing to develop Chinese-language education in Cambodia,” as well as her work on cross-cultural relations and education, university director Xie Shanggo said at a presentation ceremony on Monday morning, held at Chaktomuk Hall in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district.
Ms. Rany, who also holds an honorary degree from the University of Cambodia as well as three doctorates from South Korean universities in subjects ranging from economics to literature, thanked the institution, which is based in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s Nanning city.
“Receiving this certificate is a great honor for the whole nation—not just for my life, but for all Khmer women also,” Ms. Rany said in a statement.
